About Damascus Church
Damascus Congregational Christian Church is a church rich in history and tradition with roots nearly as old as the community itself. The church was established in 1797 and has continued since that year with strong and good spiritual leadership by its members and pastors. Starting with the “circuit riders” of James O’Kelly, Damascus has been a cornerstone of Southern Orange and Northern Chatham Counties, family and neighbors coming together to hear God’s Word.
We are a community of believers, many with long-standing family ties, that have a wide range and depth of theology with an abiding understanding of Jesus’ Golden Rule – Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. We teach and are nourished by God’s Word so that we can apply it to today’s world to support our family, neighbors and community.
“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
John 1:4-5
